Hemline Programs Overview
Where voice meets vision.
The Hemline’s mentorship is not about hierarchy—it’s about rhythm.
We honor both the emerging and the established, the seeker and the sage.
Whether you’re stepping into your creativity for the first time, or returning to it after years of offering it to the world—there is a space here for you.
Two paths. One ecosystem. Deep nourishment for your art and self.

This is a gentle, supportive container for those building confidence in their voice, reconnecting with creativity, or just beginning to share their work. Includes group sessions, a digital workbook, and opportunities to be featured in Woven Words.
This is youth journalism reimagined: honest, visual, and stitched with care.

Not sure where you fit?
You don’t have to decide alone.
Whether you’re newly returning to your art or already deep in your practice, we believe in meeting you where you are.
Both spaces are open-hearted, accessible, and built to nurture your unique voice.
How to Join
Collective Path Studio
Offered twice a year — Spring and Fall. Open to all emerging creatives.
Applications open seasonally and are limited to 10–15 participants per cohort.
To apply, fill out the brief interest form during the open call. We’ll ask about your creative dreams, current curiosities, and where you’d like support. You’ll hear back within 1–2 weeks of the deadline, with next steps and cohort details.
Residency Path
By invitation or nomination. Rolling expressions of interest welcome.
To be considered, submit a brief introduction—share a bit about your creative journey, current work, and what you're seeking in this season of your artistry. You may also include a portfolio link, published piece, or nomination from a fellow artist.
Once we receive it, we’ll be in touch within 2–3 weeks to begin the quiet dialogue of curation. Residencies are offered seasonally and include optional retreat access, artist features, and deeper collaborative opportunities.

✧ Collective Path ✧ or ✧ The Residency ✧.
Just a chance to reflect, explore, and choose what feels right for you.
-
The Collective Oath Residency is for mid-career or emerging artists with an existing practice who want to deepen their work and contribute to The Hemline’s archive.
The Mentorship Path is for young adults (typically ages 18–25) who are beginning to discover their creative voice and want guidance, workshops, and support in shaping their vision.
-
Residency: Artists with a developed body of work or practice. Open to Black, Brown, immigrant, disabled, and working-class artists whose stories are underrepresented.
Mentorship: Young adults exploring writing, art, or creative process who may not yet call themselves “artists.” No portfolio required — just curiosity and openness.
-
Residency: Dedicated creative mentorship, access to The Hemline’s archive and podcast, opportunities for publication/showcases, and community support.
Mentorship: Weekly creative workshops (journaling, collage, movement, writing), reflection circles, one-on-one check-ins, and the option to submit work to The Hemline.
-
Residency: Commitment to one seasonal project and sharing it through a final offering (publication, event, or digital showcase). Most residents spend 4–6 hours/week.
Mentorship: Show up with respect, curiosity, and willingness to learn. There’s no grade or rigid outcome — most mentees complete a small project by the end.
-
Both programs are free to apply.
Residency: No “pay to participate.” Small stipends may be available depending on funding.
Mentorship: Free of charge thanks to Hemline’s donors and supporters.
-
No, both programs are free. The Hemline is committed to accessible creative spaces. If accepted, you’ll receive full support at no cost.
